Albany State University has enjoyed a long tradition of excellence in athletics. Albany State offers first-class athletic programs 11 sports, including baseball, football, women’s volleyball, softball, women’s tennis, and men and women’s basketball, cross country and track and field.
The University is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and competes at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Six student-athletes will represent Albany State University at the 2009 NCAA Division II Men and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held May 21-23 at the LeGrand Sports Complex at Angelo State University in Angelo, Texas.
Albany State Golden Rams change 2009 football scheduleThe Albany State University 2009 football schedule has changed, ASU athletic administrators have announced. The Golden Rams will open the 2009 season on the road against the Chowan University Hawks on Thursday, Aug. 27. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Garrison Stadium in Murfreesboro, N.C.
