  • Students' Needs Assessment Survey - helps identify personal and educational needs of students.
  • Entering Students' Survey - provides demographics, background, and available academic assistance for new students.
  • Student Opinion Survey - explores enrollment, new students' perceptions of Albany State's programs and services.
  • Survey of Academic Advising - obtains students' impressions of the university's academic advising program as well as the students' individual advisors.

Benefits

Students who visit the Academic Advisement Center benefit from peer tutoring, mentoring and workshops that teach various academic skills.

Clientele or Students Served

The Academic Advisement Center addresses the needs of beginning freshmen, transfer students with fewer than 60 hours, minority students, non-traditional students and students who have not decided on a major. The Center also provides services for students who are weak in certain areas of study. Students on academic probation and suspension also get assistance from the center.

Why does the Academic Advisement Center exist?

Purpose

Research and experience indicate that entering freshmen, regardless of scholastic aptitude or academic preparedness, frequently lack many of the skills needed to survive in a college setting. The Center exists to help students who frequently attain low-grade point averages and who encounter family, financial, and other personal problems. The Center is also part of the ASU Retention Program.
