ASU SCHOOL CODE: 001544
When you apply for federal student aid (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/), your answers to certain questions will determine whether you are considered dependent on your parents or independent.
For the 2006-2007 academic year, you are an independent, as defined by the federal student aid programs, if you can answer “yes” to at least one statements listed below:
If you have access to the Internet, you should use FAFSA on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. FAFSA on the Web submits your data directly to the U.S. Department of Education’s Central Processing System (CPS). The CPS will send your information electronically to Albany State University. Our school code for the FAFSA is 001544.
Students and parents of dependent students applying for aid may electronically sign their FAFSA on the Web application by using their PIN. If you are a new applicant or lost your PIN and you or your parents do not have a PIN be sure to request one at http://www.pin-ed.gov/ before completing FAFSA on the Web. You and your parents can request a PIN as early as your senior year in high school.
You should apply as soon as you can after January 1, 2006 for the 2006-2007 academic year. After the Department of Education receives your completed application, you will be sent a Student Aid Report (SAR). The Department of Education will send your data electronically to Albany State University. It is important that you apply early because some funds are limited. The priority deadline for your electronic data to be received from the Department of Education to Albany State University is April 15.
When you receive your SAR, review it carefully to make sure it’s correct and complete. If you need to make changes, contact your financial aid advisor in the Office of Financial Aid and allow the school to submit the corrections electronically. We recommend that the Office of Financial Aid submit corrections because your financial aid advisor may determine that other corrections need to be made.
