Forensic Science Mission

The Mission of the Albany State University Department of Criminal Justice is to forge strategic links between professional Criminal Justice and Forensic Science agencies, academic research, education of students, and promotion of justice. This provides for enhancement of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science agencies, Criminal Justice and Forensic Science research, and students = education. Flowing from this enhancement is the strengthening of community and the overall quality of life within the University service area. Service to the community, development of students, and the advancement of criminal justice are also the goals of the Department. The Department's missions and goals completion will be advanced by its continuing commitment to quality education, service to Criminal Justice and Forensic Science professionals and the community, and the continued development of the Department through research and modernization

Goals:

The overall goal of the Criminal Justice Department emphasizes career preparation along with academic preparation/achievement. To achieve this general goal, the Department has the following objectives:

  1. Prepare students for entry and middle level administrative positions within the area of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
  2. Provide working professionals in the area of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science an opportunity to continue their education and enhance their career opportunities
  3. Disseminate cutting edge information in the area of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science to in-service professionals, while encouraging them to utilize this within the areas of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science institutions.
  4. Provide students with an understanding of the theoretical and philosophical principles of law enforcement and punishment that can guide them as they assume policy-making positions with the Criminal Justice system
  5. Expose students to conference, workshops and technical training in these areas of Criminal Justice to enhance their current and future performance within the Criminal Justice system
  6. Recruit , matriculate, and graduate high caliber minority students in the fields of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
  7. Provide expertise and support to area Criminal Justice and Forensic Science agencies.
  8. Participate in service area organizations' research projects, and facilitate new program implementation in the area of human services
  9. Provide support and information to students in the areas of employment and career advancement
  10. Provide students with knowledge of the methods, application and implications of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science research.
