Traditionally, Albany State University has been a leader in Teacher Education in the State of Georgia through its delivery of quality programs. The highest standards regarding professional disposition are modeled through a strong and dedicated faculty and education majors demonstrating excellence in learning. Albany State University is recognized for its excellence by its No. 14 ranking in the nation among all colleges and universities for producing teachers of color. (Ranking is certified by the publication Diverse Issues in Higher Education .) As Dean for the COE, my immediate challenge is to produce more high-achieving students of color while appealing to an even more highly diverse student population.
This Citadel for Learning supports and nurtures teachers and leaders through utilization of the highest accepted educational standards. The College of Education holds state accreditation with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) and national accreditation through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Through visionary practices and compliance with the industry's highest standards in education leadership, school counseling and teacher preparation, the Dean - with the support of a dedicated faculty - is holding the COE to the ideal of making continuous strides at the University in becoming known and accepted as the educational hub for the southwest Georgia region and the State of Georgia as a whole. Programs are being expanded at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in order to better serve our constituents. Plans are currently being developed to provide degree programs in birth-through-five, additional degree offerings for an MAT, expanded specialist programs and a doctoral degree.
The COE is developing its own unique brand for enhanced visibility in the community and its accompanying education venues so that we may raise the torch of learning for all to see the excellence surrounding the COE and the University.
Sincerely,
Wilburn A. Campbell, Jr.
Dean, COE
