It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration webpage at Albany State University, Albany, Georgia. The Department is ready to build upon a proud past. Those were – and those are – the strengths of ASU’s Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration. Our responsibility is to create new ways to use those strengths to meet present and emerging challenges.

Within the liberal arts curriculum, the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration offer bachelor degrees in :

  • History
  • Political Science
  • Master of Public Administration

The department supports the curricula of other departments through the provision of courses in history, government, geography, philosophy and social sciences. Minor programs are offered in History, Political Science, Legal Studies, Public Administration and International Affairs. Each minor program consists of 18 semester hours beyond the core requirements.

The overall mission of the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration is to educate students and provide them with the necessary academic tools in their respective disciplines in order to function effectively in the global environment. We endeavor to deliver precise, prompt and courteous assistance to our students, to those who use our professional services, and to the public agencies who hire our graduates.

The faculty, like the student body, is cosmopolitan. The members display a significant range of opinion and philosophy, founded at many of our nation’s leading universities. Over 90% of the faculty in this department has received an earned doctorate, while 10% have professional degrees within their respective fields. The University is fully accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Master of Public Administration program also holds National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) accreditation.

Undergraduate Minor Programs

In addition to Major Programs, undergraduates Minor Programs are offered in History, Political Science, Legal Studies, International Relations and Public Administration. Each minor program consists of 18 semester hours beyond the core requirements. These programs prepare students for professional careers and advanced study in history, political science, law and public and private sector administration. Internship experiences in political science and public administration are available.
